My current video game obsession is Grand Theft Auto 5. I had never played any of the other GTA's, but when my boyfriend bought it the week it was released, I instantly understood the craze. GTA gives people the ability to do anything and everything that they couldn't do in real life. I feel like the influence of GTA is greater in children because of the exposure to criminal activity and violence. For me, it didn't really effect any aspect of my life besides time.
The release of GTA5, in September of 2013, was a much awaited and anticipated event. For months, people were counting down the days until the new GTA came out; my boyfriend, being one of those people. For weeks after the release date, all I heard about was GTA and all I did in my spare time was play GTA. If we hung out in a big group of people, instead of playing a multi-player game, we would trade turns on GTA.
The game in general, the first edition through the fifth, has had a tremendous impact on culture and has been heavily debated throughout my lifetime. It is know for it's controversy and kids and teens alike flock to games like that.
