Meme

Richard Dawkins created the term "meme" in his book, The Selfish Gene. He used the word to explain how cultural information spreads. It became more popular when internet memes arose which can either be an image, hyperlinlk, video, website, or hashtag. Usually it is just a picture with an ironic sentence that plays off of either the person or thing in the photo or the character they play in a show or movie.
